Next time you are in the South Beach area and in need of a break from the sand and surf, stop in the Art Deco Museum and Welcome Center on Ocean Drive. The center is run by the Miami Design Preservation League which was founded in 1976 by Barbara Baer Capitman in order to save South Beach’s art deco buildings that had fallen in disrepair and faced the threat of being torn down and replaced with new structures. For a fee of $5, visitors to the museum will learn about the history of the district, the quest to save it and various elements of art deco design.
