There are a number of reasons to take an #urbanhike through downtown St. Petersburg including enjoying the numerous restaurants, shops and museums, as well as discovering a few historical sites along the way. Located at 400 First Ave. N, stands an open air post office which has been serving the residents of St. Petersburg continuously since 1916. The building has Mediterranean Revival features such as ornate tiles and iron accents which have been beautifully maintained. The post office was not only used to provide mail service, but the historical plaque located in front states “The building’s open style was extensively promoted in the 1920s as proof of St. Petersburg’s balmy climate.” This building is well worth a look if you are in the downtown area.
